Elena D’Angelo – UNITAR SCYCLE

Elena D’Angelo is currently Research Associate at UNU-ViE/UNITAR SCYCLE. Since she joined the SCYCLE team in 2016, she has been mainly involved in the coordination and research activities of EU funded projects dealing with transnational waste crimes, as well as in research activities dealing with environmental crime, mercury waste and circular economy. Working with the UN since more than 10 years, she has developed an in-depth knowledge of the phenomena related to the illicit transboundary movement and management of waste, including e-waste, also thanks to the involvement in the preparation and development of EC-funded projects CWIT, Dotcom Waste, Waste Force and STrIKE.

Her work is mainly focused on applied research and training for law enforcement and legal professionals. She has several years’ experience in the field of multi-stakeholders trainings development (both face-to-face and e-learning), especially within the enforcement sectors, and preparation of training modules materials.

She currently also works as senior researcher at the Research centre on security and crime (RiSSC) and she has been a project analyst for the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) from 2010-2018.

Before joining UNICRI, Ms. D’Angelo worked with multiple international organizations and NGOs, both at the institutional level and in the field, dealing with development issues.
